What you are about to read is real. It is a selection of comments from a February 2, 2011 article posted on Yahoo! News concerning electricity supply problems in the U.S. state of Texas due to cold weather. An AFP journalist wrote this article stating that 280 megawatts of power was transferred from Mexico to Texas during an unspecified period of time. It's things like these [comments] that make me lose all faith in the supposed intelligence of human beings. Or maybe just some heads have mouths but no brains.

This is hard for me to understand. There are thousands of wind turbines in west Texas, good GREEN energy. Why is it that this is not powering our world Mr. Obama you IDIOT Maxist. Construction is being held up on every clean coal fired, natural gas, and nuclear power plant in the country because you Idiot FEEL GOOD voters put that POS in the WH.
I knew it was only a matter of time before Mexico starting getting their fingers into our electrical market. No one wants more power generation stations built in this country because of pollution. Well, this is not the answer. If we need the power we need the power. If it is supplied by a new station built within the borders of the US, it is regulated by our pollution controls. Mexico's power generation is not. Polluting the world is polluting the world. Using power from Mexico causes far more pollution than making our own.
I guess the left is so frustrated they can't whine about global warming they have to pathetically try to make a big deal out of this. What is conveniently not mentioned is that a major part of the problem was due the the cooling pipes freezing in two major power substations and an automated system shut them down. Texas was going to build more power plants before the the Democrat majority took over in congress in 2006/08 and shot it down. Ahh, the irony.

I live in Texas, we have been experiencing rolling blackouts all day. The evening news reported they will continue tonight and tomorrow. The reported reason for the blackouts is that frozen water pipes at some of our generation plants forced them to shut down. That is what is being reported although no one “official“ will comment. Seems a little strange to me! I find this story very interesting because it has not been mentioned once on the local news that we are receiving power from Mexico. For those who don’t know, Texas has it’s own power grid. We are not connected to the national grid like most of the rest of the country. Until I read this story, I had no idea we were connected to Mexico’s grid. There is something not quite right here. What's going on here Governor Good Hair?

Actually. This is a stupid @#$% article. Each year certain power stations are required by federal law to shut down for regular maintenance in the winter when the power is usually on very low draw. And since our current retard of a president has mandated that no more coal or nuclear power stations may be built, we are unable to cycle up the stations that are down to add additional power to the grid. We can thank Laura Miller and Bill White for the blackouts, as they stopped the 11 new clean coal burning power plants from being built in Texas with their misiformation meetings. Since I've been in the utility business for 20 years, I'll explain it to your feeble-emotion driven minds: This is the lowest temperature in Texas in 50 years. You do not build enough power plants to support a once every 50 year demand spike. It would cost a fortune and that capacity would just sit there most of the time. This would drive rates up for everyone. Buying power from Mexico or some of state is EXACTLY what should be done for these rare events. As for your utopia of green energy, when the wind stops blowing and the sun is not shining, coal, oil, gas or nuclear power plants must be sitting on standby to cover the loss of the green power. Essentially doubling the cost of generation infrastructure in the country for every kilowatt of green generation. It can only lead to higher electrical rates and drive up utility cost to companies which will make harder for them to compete and hire people. Its a brilliant plan. Liberals are idiots.

Two coal plants are shut down while the others are running at partial capacity for, wait for it, pollution reduction reasons. So we are caught flat footed relying on Natural Gas and Wind to pick up the slack. Thanks green movement! Also those floods in Australia were caused by climate change believers who convinced the government to relax flood plain zoning and to keep too much water in the flood control reservoir, why? With all the natural gas being supplied from the new wells, why is there no new generating plants working using this gas? I am over 70 years old and have never seen a time when we had a need for any power shutdown. We were suppose to have a better system with deregulation (the same with the telephone companies). I think its about time to really take a hard look at who is running things and get rid of some of these bungling coorporate heads and the politicians they have in their pocket.

One word came to mind when I read this, California. Texas produces 1/3 of all energy in this country and consumes well below 8%. So why would Texas have a shortage? It is because sorry libtard, democrat run states like California won't contribute their share to energy production, which causes shortages and inflates the prices for the rest of the country. Texas should add a tarrif on energy sold to states which run an energy deficit. Then take that money, and lower the cost of energy for its own citizens.
